In my writing, I frequently utilize the motif of the Tower of Babel. In Genesis 11, after the flood, the peoples of the earth decide to enter God’s court and engage Him on their terms. To that end, they begin constructing a tower. In one of the most pointed moments in literary history, the Genesis account tells us that “the Lord came down to see the city and the tower (Genesis 11:5).” Did you catch that? Man’s rebellion is so laughably feeble that God had to leave heaven and come down just to look at it. No wonder Psalm 2 says, “He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision (Psalm 2:4).” And nothing has changed.
Throughout all history, the construction of the Tower of the Babel by humans has not ceased. And just like the history recounted in Genesis 11, God continues to come down and destroy the laughably feeble efforts of rebellious humans. The sexual revolution is one such Tower of Babel, and, like His response to all of the coupes on His throne, God sits in the heavens and laughs. Buzzfeed has recently provided a shameful example of one such rebellious attempt. God will not be mocked, though.
