Today was my eight-year-old son’s first official baseball game of the fall season. As the youngest, smallest, and least experienced kid on his team, he was excited yet nervous. I was excited and nervous for him.  Expecting to play very little, he was happy to see the lineup, finding out that he was going to play three of the five innings. During the second inning, his first, the game was marred by an injury.

I love baseball. Always have. As a kid, I love watching, playing, and dreaming about baseball. As an adult, I love being able to take my daughter and son to Nationals Park to watch our hometown team play. Even though I’m a Cubs fan, I do what I can to help foster my children’s love of the Nationals. My wife and I sport Nats gear at the games and we cheer loudly along with our children (let me tell you, it’s hard to beat the excitement of a watching a grand slam in an MLB game). Very few things that we do together as a family are as much fun as watching the Washington Nationals play baseball.

Weekend Reading: 4/1

I freely and happily admit that I have cribbed this idea from many other writers and bloggers. So be it. A good idea is a good idea, right? There is so much content vying for our attention on the internet, it’s often hard to find the diamond in the rough, so to speak. Although, there are plenty of diamonds hidden throughout the interwebs. That fact means that aggregate sites are useful, and websites and blogs that devote articles and posts to serving as an aggregate for interesting and/or useful content are likewise useful. While I have next to zero desire for this blog to become an aggregate site, or even provide daily posts that offer some help to my friends and readers uncovering some diamonds that they may have missed, a weekly post seems fun for me and possibly profitable for others.
